Time to Reset

It’s the last day of the week, month and year.  Wow, did 2016 fly by or is it just me?  I had all these plans and goals that I set around this time last year and seemingly no time to get everything done.  It’s easy to get discouraged when you don’t meet goals and plans get pushed or changed.

TRANSPARENT MOMENT:  I had a rough time last night.  As a prepared for bed it hit me that this year was coming to a close and there were things that I truly believed were going to happen for me and my family.  I thought to myself “here’s another year added to the length of time we’ve been believing and trying for a baby”. Then the tears fell.  I cried for a while and decided to write my thoughts out and cried out to God for help and strength.

Yep, I know I am not the only one who had dreams and goals for 2016 that didn’t happen.  I know I am not the only one who struggled with various thoughts of wanting to throw in the towel and say to heck with it all.  I get it.  See, as a leader, it’s hard to be open and honest about difficult times.  As I’ve said previously, if I hide the tough times, then God can’t get the glory when I cross the finish line and have victory over my situation.

So before we head into the new year, I want you to join me in this task I'm calling “Reset”.  I was praying and the word reset dropped in my spirit. Reset means to become set again. When things stop working the way it should or something gets off track, you push reset to put it in it’s set place again.  That’s what I am doing and I want you to join me.

STEP ONE: Reflect

Take some time to sit back and look over all the things that happened this year, the good and the bad.  This helps to put things into prospective.  See, the devil would have you believe that nothing good happened to you or for you this year, causing the seed of defeat and depression to be planted and urging you to give up hope. Writing down the blessings you received this year allows you to see how truly blessed you are.

STEP TWO: Remove

This step is very important and at times the toughest.  Remove negative people, negative things and negative thoughts from your life.  Remove doubt and anything that comes to separate you from God.  Negativity is one of those things that can cause you to lose sight of your goal and initiative.  Also evaluate the people you are connected to. Do you have the right kingdom connections that can encourage you and intercede for you along the way?

STEP THREE: Refocus

It can become easy to get distracted and start focusing on things that are not helping you progress forward toward your assignment and goal.  Paul said “I press toward the mark”  that means keeping your eyes focused on the goal, on the prize, on the things that are meaningful.  I personally can get distracted by seeing various posts on social media.  Certain posts can cause you to question your ability and the progress you are making (questioning if we are moving at the right pace).

STEP FOUR: Reorganize

This one is a big one for me.  Great things can happen when you have things organized.  Set reasonable goals for yourself and organize a detailed plan on how you plan to reach the goal. Get an accountability partner, mentor or coach who you can trust to share your goals with and allow them to hold you accountable to deadlines.  I see so many people who struggle because they feel they can do it on their own.  Since the beginning of time, God always provided help to those who were called.  Prime example is Jesus who had John the Baptist. Another example is Moses who had Aaron.  Those are just a couple but the Bible is full of examples showing us how important it is to have the RIGHT people in your life to help you.

STEP FIVE: Restart

Time to start again. The beautiful thing about resetting is that you can do it at any time.  You don’t have to wait until another new year rolls around.  You can reset and follow these steps any time you feel that you are getting off track.  You can start again!  We’ve heard it said in scripture that the race is not given to the one who is the fastest or the strongest but to the person who endures to the end.  So the key is to keep going no matter how many times you have to start again.

When giving up seems like the best and only option, stop, press reset, follow these steps and keep moving forward. If no one has told you lately, I am here to tell you, YOU GOT THIS!  YOU WILL BE VICTORIOUS!
